Giving back at Broadlands Lakes

November 27, 2019

As a local business, the CJ’s team are proud to support local businesses and community initiatives. We are active members of our local communities and love spending time getting to know fellow business owners.

Corporate Social Responsibility takes many forms but for lots of businesses can be a tick box exercise. Our team enjoy work that keeps them active, and therefore fit, with a close connection to the wonder of nature. We are so passionate about the wellbeing benefits of our work that we jump at the chance to help others experience how good it feels.

Broadlands coarse fishery

One community initiative that is particularly close to our hearts, is one that runs at Broadlands Fishing Lakes.

Led by our director, Lee, this wonderful working party is made up of a mixed group of men who have either been unwell, are retired or who have been widowed.

Once a week you’ll find Lee and the volunteers, getting stuck into all sorts of grounds maintenance jobs around Broadlands Fishing Lakes, keeping the swims and the areas surrounding the lakes tidy and well cared for.

Irrespective of age, ability or experience, the group enjoy working together. A great benefit of the group is the positive impact of working as part of a team who support each other to achieve common goals. The camaraderie, coupled with spending time in nature and keeping active, offers therapeutic benefits to men who might otherwise experience negative feelings, or isolation.

Whilst it is a volunteer role, the team get fed and watered whilst working and get to earn fishing time on the lakes which they love.

Doing good does you good

Research has shown that ‘Doing good, Does you good’. When you volunteer you gain new skills, get to know new people and reduce feelings of isolation. If you’re looking to move jobs or get back into work, volunteering can be a wonderful way of brushing up on the skills you need.

And let’s be honest, it feels good to do things just because you want to.

Do you know anyone who might like to join the team?

Lee and the team are incredibly passionate about the benefits they reap from volunteering at Broadlands Fishing Lakes but there is always lots to do and many hands make light work! The beautiful location is an added benefit.

If you know someone who might benefit from getting involved, or if it sounds like something you’d enjoy, please get in touch. We’d be happy to connect you with the owners at Broadlands.
